A male student unexpectedly punched a professor during a degree conferment segment in eastern China.

The shocking video was filmed at Fudan University in Shanghai on June 19.

The ceremony proceeded smoothly, with students taking turns to receive their degrees. However, the solemn atmosphere was abruptly shattered when a student walked towards a professor standing in the second position from the right and suddenly punched him in the face.

The blow knocked off the professor’s glasses and mortarboard. Witnesses, including other professors and students, were left in shock as the assailant swiftly exited the scene.

The injured professor was immediately taken to the hospital for examination and, fortunately, only sustained minor injuries. He is now in stable condition.

In response, the university’s Student Affairs Office and the Law School staff stated that an in-depth investigation is underway, and appropriate measures will be taken based on the findings.

According to some alumni, the student might be from Taiwan and could have harboured resentment due to unsuccessful attempts to withdraw from the university.

It was speculated that he intended to attack the dean but mistakenly targeted the wrong person. However, these claims are unverified and await the results of the ongoing investigation.
