STORYLINE:

Young hairdressers from Myanmar Barber Academy have been offering free haircuts in Botataung Township, Yangon, under the "Free Haircuts for Everyone" campaign to help poor people.

"The campaign has been running for over a year, and we intend to keep it going continuously," James, a hairdressing instructor from Myanmar Barber Academy, told Xinhua.

Hairdressing services are offered with 15 to 18 hairdressers every Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. local time, he added.

"Amid rising prices, our (campaign) is especially useful for the poor. A haircut at a shop costs at least 2,000 or 3,000 kyats (about 1.42 U.S. dollars), and it's a monthly expense. By coming to us, people can save that money and use it elsewhere," he said.

James said that during the rainy season, at least 30 to 40 people come for haircuts per day, while in the winter and summer seasons, at least 50 people come per day.
