STORYLINE:

Experts on Tuesday stressed the necessity of increased global exchange and cooperation to address the increasing mental health problems of adolescents and children at the third conference of the Global Health Forum of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA).

SOUNDBITE 1 (English): AMAKOBE SANDE, UNICEF representative to China
"One in seven children between 10 and 19 years of age across the world is living with a diagnosed mental health condition. In recent years, we at UNICEF (the United Nations Children's Fund) alongside the global health community have increased efforts to raise the issue, end stigma, and secure children's and caregivers' access to support, but we are far from meeting the demands."

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): DEVORA KESTEL, Director of the Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse at WHO
"We briefly mentioned it at the beginning when we talk about children and adolescents prevention is key for everybody, but if we manage to prevent issues from happening at this early stage, then the implications are enormous."

The three-day event opened on Tuesday, during which 21 parallel sub-forums will be held, covering international cooperation on rare diseases, South-South cooperation to support maternal and child health, and the use of artificial intelligence to enhance overall health.
