STORYLINE:

Thanks to a major bridge built by a consortium of Chinese enterprises, a winery in Croatia located near the bridge, has been expanding business with the Chinese side and eyeing a bigger share in the Chinese market.

SOUNDBITE 1 (English): BRANIMIR ANDJELIC, Sales director of the Dingac-Skaramuca Winery
"We are very close to the Peljesac Bridge, around 20 minutes by car. That is the reason we have so many Chinese people visiting us in the winery and wine shop. After they constructed the Peljesac Bridge, we have a significant increase of visitors, not just foreigners, but local, domestic people from the cities near the Peljesac."

A Chinese consortium constructed the 2.4-kilometer-long bridge that connects Croatia's mainland with the Peljesac Peninsula.

Since its inauguration in July 2022, the bridge has significantly cut travel time to the Adriatic coast and increased economic opportunities for the region.

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): BRANIMIR ANDJELIC, Sales director of the Dingac-Skaramuca Winery
"Wine in Croatia connects people. Dingac and their wines connected us with our friends in China. First, we became friends and then we started to do business. I think the feedback is very good and the price is also, so we are recognized as a good winemaking country. And I think we have a very good opportunity to present and to sell Dingac in China. After they built the Peljesac Bridge and after they have a strong cooperation with our government and our state, it definitely helps with the future of businesses of us."

While Germany and the United States have long been the primary export markets for Dingac, Andjelic highlights the increasing importance of the Chinese market.

SOUNDBITE 3 (English): BRANIMIR ANDJELIC, Sales director of the Dingac-Skaramuca Winery
"We are very optimistic about the Dingac sales in China. We have limited quantities, but I expect good results for selling in China."
