Residents in the Indian ancestral village of United States Vice President Kamala Harris offered prayers for her presidential campaign.

Footage shows villagers gathering at Dharma Sastha Temple in Thulasendrapuram, Tamil Nadu, India, where her grandfather was born, to ask the Hindu gods for her victory.

A similar event was held in the Tiruvarur district as the Democratic Party's formal declaration of a candidate for the U.S. presidential election was being anticipated.

Villager Rajesh said: 'We are overjoyed that Kamala Harris, the granddaughter of P V Gopalan, is most likely to be the US Presidential candidate. We planned special poojas in the hopes that Hillary would be able to defeat Donald Trump and win the nomination.'

Another village Anand added: 'We are very happy and hopeful that Kamala Harris will be chosen by the Democrats as their presidential nominee.'

Local Kumar said: 'We offered prayers to the mighty temple deity.'

In 2021, Harris's ancestral hometown also celebrated her win as the first ever female U.S. Vice President. They displayed posters, created rangolis, set fireworks, and organized meals.

Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were sworn in as the 46th President and 49th Vice President of the United States, respectively. Alongside Harris, her husband Doug Emhoff made history as the first Second Gentleman of America.

They are hoping to defeat Donald Trump - fresh from his fist-pumping bravery moments after surviving an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania.
