Giant maze pays tribute to Team GB athletes ahead of Olympic games
A giant maze has honoured Team GB athletes taking part in this summer's Olympic Games in Paris by designing it in the shape of a javelin thrower.
The popular visitor attraction near Kibworth, Leics., contains three miles of pathways across eight-acres and opened for summer earlier this week (Mon).
The award-winning maize maze has featured different quirky designs over the years - including being shaped into a Crown to mark the Queen's Jubilee.
It was also crafted to resemble an ambulance to celebrate 70 years of the NHS and a Green Sea Turtle to raise awareness about endangered marine life.
This year, its owner has paid tribute to Team GB by turning the huge puzzle into a javelin thrower - inspired by heptathlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson.
The 31-year-old Liverpudlian is being touted as one of the nation's best hopes for an Olympic medal at this year's games, something she has never achieved before.
Visitors will be asked to find 12 quiz boards, hidden amongst the pathways, which will test their knowledge on other Olympic host nations and their iconic landmarks.
Diana Brooks, the owner of Wistow Maze, said: "This year the Wistow Maze really has the winning combination of fun and learning, as well as being a celebration of one of the UK's biggest sporting competitions."
High-level bridges and towers give visitors stunning panoramic views over the fields, which will eventually blossom with sunflowers.
At the end of the season, the maize is harvested for cattle fodder before being redesigned the following spring using satellite technology.
