On July 30th, Beijing in northern China, experienced its heaviest rainfall of the season, leading to significant flooding and traffic disruptions. Videos captured commuters trudging through waterlogged streets and vehicles, including cars and buses, navigating submerged roads.

The city saw an average rainfall ranging from heavy to torrential, with some areas receiving over 250 millimetres, reaching the threshold for a severe downpour. The intense rainfall presented major challenges to Beijing's transportation, drainage, and flood control systems.

According to the Beijing Meteorological Observatory, the heavy rain was influenced by a combination of factors, including a westerly trough, the subtropical high, and moisture from Typhoon Doksuri.

The downpour led to water accumulation and traffic congestion on several roads. To ensure smooth travel during the evening rush hour, authorities implemented diversion and traffic management measures. They also increased monitoring and drainage efforts at underpasses, low-lying areas, and other prone locations. Fire and drainage services remained on high alert, prepared to respond to any emergencies.
