Italy - August 01, 2024

On August 1, staff from the INGV National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology's Palermo Section intensified monitoring efforts to assess the situation at the Stromboli craters. The volcano has exhibited continued activity, characterized by significant degassing primarily from the northeast sector.

According to reports, this activity has been accompanied by intermittent weak explosions, emitting ash and sporadic incandescent pyroclastic material known as juvenile magma. These materials have been observed falling in the vicinity of the eruptive vents. The ash disperses rapidly within the summit area of the volcano, affecting local atmospheric conditions.

The ongoing monitoring aims to gather crucial data on the volcano's behavior, aiding in the assessment of potential risks to surrounding areas. Residents and visitors are advised to stay informed through official channels and adhere to safety guidelines issued by local authorities.
