Daytona Beach, United States - August 08, 2024

On August 8th, a routine robbery response in Daytona Beach took an unexpected turn when the suspect attempted a daring escape into the Halifax River. Daytona Beach Police Officers, responding to a robbery call, encountered Richard Martinovics (DOB 10/31/1991) on a bridge. In a sudden move, Martinovics leaped into the river, prompting a swift response from the department's Marine Unit.

The Marine Unit was quickly deployed, and Martinovics was swiftly pulled from the water and placed under arrest. What initially seemed like a bold escape plan quickly dissolved as the suspect found himself not only apprehended but also soaking wet.

The incident serves as a reminder that evading authorities by swimming away is rarely successful, often resulting in further legal complications. Martinovics now faces additional charges related to his attempted evasion, underscoring the consequences of trying to swim away from trouble.
