Oddly satisfying timelapse footage showing crayons melting under hot sunlight.

The video captured by the National Weather Service (NWS) revealed coloured wax melting on the hottest day of the year in Shreveport, Louisiana, on August 18.

Following initial setbacks, the third attempt yielded fascinating results.

It showed the gradual transformation of a box of wax pastels as temperatures soared to 115 degrees Fahrenheit (46 degrees Celsius).

The experiment conducted by NWS aimed to study the effects of extreme heat on everyday materials. It revealed how pigmented wax coped under the blistering sun.

Spectators were treated to a visual display showcasing the crayons' endurance as they melted and morphed in the relentless heatwave.

They said the video serves as a vivid reminder of the scorching conditions, illustrating the power of nature through the simple act of melting crayons.
