This is the shocking moment a monitor lizard joined a tourist for a snack by munching on chips by the pool.

Holidaymaker Siti Hajar Jasnee and others spotted the ravenous reptile climbing a table next to the hotel guest resting on a sun lounger at a five-star resort hotel on Sentosa Island in Singapore.

Footage shows the stealthy reptile slowly clambering up the small table while the woman close by browses her phone on November 30.

The creature then ate the French fries in a transparent container. Instead of fleeing, the unfazed vacationer sat still and let the animal enjoy the food.

Siti said: 'A lifeguard chased the lizard away after the incident. No one was hurt in the encounter.'

Asian water monitor lizards normally live in canals, swamps, sewers, and ponds. They feed on fish, snakes, frogs, and scraps of food left by humans.

The reptiles are aggressive when threatened and have a mildly venomous bite which sometimes carries harmful bacteria. The Godzilla-like reptiles are also a protected species in the country so their population thrives.
