In a race against time as darkness approached, the Marine Enforcement Section of the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) executed a timely rescue operation, saving a group of boaters whose vessel was sinking in the bay.

The incident unfolded just before nightfall when the Marine Unit received an urgent call about a boat taking on water and without power, leaving its occupants stranded with no means to return to land. Responding swiftly, the deputies launched their newly acquired SAFE Boat, designed for such emergency situations, and navigated through the bay to reach the distressed vessel.

Upon arrival, the deputies found the boaters in a precarious situation. With the boat rapidly filling with water, the deputies acted decisively, transferring the boaters onto their rescue vessel. They then safely transported the group back to the Williams Boat Ramp, ensuring their safety just as night set in.

Sheriff Chad Chronister praised the Marine Enforcement Section for their professionalism and quick response. "I can't say enough good things about our Marine Enforcement Section and their poise in this situation," he remarked. "Their swift action not only saved lives but also allowed us to coordinate with SeaTow to remove the distressed vessel from our waters, preventing further hazards."

This rescue underscores the vital role of the Sheriff's Office Marine Unit in ensuring safety on the water. The incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of boating and the importance of having well-equipped and trained emergency response teams ready to act at a moment's notice. The successful operation highlights the effectiveness of the HCSO's preparedness and the value of community partnerships like SeaTow in managing maritime emergencies.
