STORYLINE:
An international forum on cave temple conservation is being held in northwest China's Dunhuang, home to the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Mogao Grottoes.
The four-day event, scheduled to wrap up on Thursday, drew over 400 cultural heritage conservation experts and scholars from 16 countries to pool wisdom for the global conservation of cave temples.
Attendees have shared techniques, experiences, and ideas, particularly highlighting China's advanced approaches that have gained global attention.
SOUNDBITE 1 (English): JO SANGSUN, Director of the Jungwon National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage of the Republic of Korea (ROK)
"I came here to learn and get knowledge about management and conservation techniques of China about cave temples. I am a conservation architect, but my recent interest is focused on digitalization because digitalization is a very useful technique and useful tool to protect and preserve cultural heritage forever. So I wonder how it works in Dunhuang about digital techniques and digitalization.
Recently, climate change is a very important point of preservation. So this place, Dunhuang, is very important. And various information and knowledge can be learned and it will be adjusted to other cave temples not only in China but also in all the world."
SOUNDBITE 2 (English): VINCENT DETALLE, Professor, CY Cergy Paris University
"It's very important to have this kind of international collaboration in order to share the different experiences that we can have in different climate conditions in order to find the best solution for each case. So it is very important to have this kind of meeting where we learn from each other in order to continue to progress and to understand in a better way the global actions that we have to fight in the future in order to ensure the preservation of our cultural artifacts, but also our social culture."
