Japan: Shanahan Brings Heavy Rains To Tokyo
Tokyo, Japan - August 30, 2024
Tropical Storm Shanshan is moving northeast over southwestern Japan. Weather officials are warning that it will bring heavy rains and strong winds to many parts of the country into the weekend.
As of Friday morning, Shanshan was moving slowly over Oita Prefecture in Kyushu. More than 600 millimeters of rain were recorded in the city of Saiki over the past three days. That is double the monthly average.
Stormy weather is also hitting parts of eastern Japan. The storm even appears to have damaged trees in Tokyo.
