China: 82-year-old Chinese grandma embraces modern farming technologies
Storyline: 82-year-old Chinese grandma embraces modern farming technologies [Voice_over] In east China's Anhui Province, an 82-year-old grandmother is redefining what it means to be a tech pioneer. Dai Shuying, a farmer from a small village, has become the unlikely mastermind behind her family's 40-hectare agricultural operation. It all started when her grandson brought home a drone to use in their fields. At first, Dai was skeptical. But soon, her piloting abilities took flight. [Sound_bite] Dai Suying, farmer: "When my grandson first brought home the drone, I doubted that such a small device could really fly. After my grandson managed to get it in the air, it really piqued my interest besides making me excited. Since then, whenever he operated the drone for various tasks, I'd tag along, watch him do it, and ask him how to control it. Over time, I've gradually learned a bit about the drone." [Voice_over] The family now operates six pieces of advanced machinery including drones that handle seeding and fertilization, and intelligent harvesters and excavators. And when Dai's not managing heavy-duty farming equipment, she's honing her short video editing skills. [Sound_bite] Wang Tiantian, grandson of Dai: "My grandma really loves filming videos with us, and she has such a great time doing it each time. She often says a great mood helps her stay healthy." [Voice_over] Today, China's agricultural sector stands firmly among the world's most technologically advanced, with 5G networks now covering 96 percent of townships and technological progress driving over 63 percent of the growth in agricultural output.
