STORYLINE:

Egypt condemned on Sunday continued Israeli military operations in the West Bank. These operations have led to the killing and injury of dozens of Palestinians over the past few days.

In a statement, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the ongoing Israeli efforts to escalate confrontations within the Palestinian territories, including the West Bank and East Jerusalem, as well as Israel's continued use of "excessive military force and unlawful killings."

The ministry stressed that Israel must abide by its legal obligations as an occupying power and protect the security of the Palestinian population in the occupied territories.

Egypt also warned of the dangers of Israel's "scorched earth policy," noting that such a policy aims to undermine all the components of a future Palestinian state and eliminate Palestinians' hopes of establishing their independent state along the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The ministry called on influential parties in the international community and the United Nations Security Council to take a firm position against these illegal practices and provide protection for the Palestinian people in the occupied territories.

Since Wednesday, Israel has conducted a large-scale raid across the northern West Bank. The stated purpose of the operation is to prevent future attacks against Israel.

Israel has been carrying out almost daily raids in the West Bank since the Palestinian-Israeli conflict broke out on Oct. 7, 2023.

According to the Palestinian Health Ministry, Israeli attacks have killed more than 660 West Bank Palestinians since the onset of the conflict.
