Storyline: Countries and inter-governmental organizations issued a joint statement on Thursday, strongly condemning Israel's push to annex parts of the West Bank. Fifteen countries including Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and ten others, along with the League of Arab States and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation denounced the bill the Israeli parliament had adopted. On Wednesday, Israeli parliament voted in favor of two bills to apply Israeli law and administration to all settlements in the West Bank, referred to by Israel as Judea and Samaria. The joint statement strongly condemns the Israeli parliament's approval of the two draft laws aimed at imposing so-called "Israeli sovereignty" over the occupied West Bank and illegal settlements. The statement said this constitutes a flagrant violation of international law and, in particular, of UN Security Council Resolution 2334. Furthermore, the advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) also confirmed the illegality of Israel's occupation of Palestinian territories and the invalidity of settlement construction in the occupied West Bank. Esmaeil Baghaei, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, said on Thursday that Israel, through establishing new settlements, reviving the so-called "Greater Israel" plan, and passing new annexation bills, aims to advance "ethnic cleansing" across the entire occupied Palestinian territory. He also called on Islamic countries and the international community to take immediate action to prevent the blatant violation of the Palestinian people's historical rights. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Foreign Ministry on Thursday also issued a statement, strongly denouncing Israel. The statement said the UAE firmly opposes all unilateral measures aimed at changing the legal and historical status of the occupied Palestinian territories, and any attempt to annex the West Bank will be firmly opposed, as such practices undermine the foundation of the "two-state solution." Israel on Thursday froze the West Bank annexation bills. Ofir Katz, chairman of the government coalition, said in a statement that the bills for the full annexation of the West Bank and the annexation of the large-scale settlement of Maale Adumim near Jerusalem will not be advanced until further notice.
