Elon Musk announced that SpaceX will leave its headquarters in Hawthorne to move to Texas due to new laws signed by California Governor Gavin Newsom.
SpaceX, an aerospace company known for its innovative rockets and space capsules, is leaving its headquarters in Hawthorne, Los Angeles County, to move to Texas, its founder, Elon Musk, announced this Tuesday.
On social media, Musk announced the departure from California of SpaceX, which has billions of dollars in contracts with the federal government, which will represent a serious blow to the regional economy and will likely cause significant job losses.
According to a September 2023 document filed in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas, SpaceX employs more than 13,000 people at its facilities across the United States, including California.
According to the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation, the aerospace industry as a whole accounts for more than 57,000 jobs countywide, with an average salary of $136,473 in 2022.
At this time, Hawthorne city officials have not issued any comments regarding the aerospace company's departure or how it could affect the local job market.
