Ship dumps sand to extend shore in Manila
A ship dumped sand to extend the beach along Manila Bay's coast in the Philippines.
Footage shows the vessel pouring dirt onto sea near the shore near buildings and other tourist spots on August 17.
The reclamation project aims to expand the area of usable land in Manila from the coastal city of Navotas to Cavite province.
However, the project became controversial when some Filipino senators blamed the widespread flooding caused by Typhoon Gaemi last month.
Senator Miguel Zubiri said: ‘This, I believe, is the consequence of all the reclamation happening in Manila Bay. There's nowhere for the floodwater to drain here in Pasay and Manila. It will keep flooding there every time it rains heavily.'
