Heartwarming cat swims across pond to accompany owner at night in southern China
On March 25, 2024, in Hengyang, a city in Hunan Province in southern China, a video captured a touching moment of a small gray and black cat swimming in a shallow creek on a dark night. The cat, named Coffee, gracefully paddled its soft limbs through the water and made its way to the shore, where its owner was waiting.
The owner, who was filming the video, explained that the video was taken in March of this year when the water temperature was quite low, only a little over 20 degrees Celsius. On his nightly patrol of his shrimp pond, Coffee, five months old at the time, surprised him by swimming across the cold water.
"I knew cats could swim, but this was the first time I saw it myself," the owner said. "It was both novel and moving to see such a young tabby cat coming to protect me. She probably thought I was unsafe being near the water and came over to me specifically. Being alone on a boat in the pond at night was a bit scary, but seeing Coffee swim to me gave me a full sense of security."
