A crane seemingly spun around without an operator ahead of Super Typhoon Yagi's landfall in China.

Video shows the crane arm slowly swinging over skyscrapers as strong winds blew through Hainan province at 2pm local time on September 6.

Onlooker Rebecca said: 'Isn't it dangerous to leave the crane like this during a typhoon?'

State media reported that super typhoon Yagi hurtled into Wenchang City in Hainan at 4pm local time.

Around 400,000 people on Hainan island were preemptively evacuated to safe ground before the typhoon arrived. Trains, flights, and boat trips were suspended.

Yagi is said to be the strongest typhoon to hit Hainan since Rammasun in 2014. As of Saturday, September 7, authorities said two people have been killed while 92 more were injured.

Yagi had hammered neighbouring Philippines with torrential rains for several days, killing at least 15 people. It then intensified into a super typhoon over the South China Sea before barreling into southern China.
