STORYLINE:
Authorities have set fire to 10 tonnes of illicit drugs in Afghanistan's western Nimruz province, provincial director for counter-narcotics Abdul Wasi Raihan said Sunday.
The contraband included heroin, opium poppy, hashish and objects used in the manufacturing of heroin. It had been collected from across the province over the past four months and was burned publicly on Saturday, Raihan said.
In April 2022, the Afghan caretaker government banned poppy cultivation, drug processing, and drug trafficking. Since then, the administration has been striving to rid Afghanistan of the drug menace.
