Police bodycam footage shows Trump assassination suspect arrested
Authorities have released police bodycam footage capturing the tense moments of the alleged Trump assassination suspect was arrested.
Footage shows police giving orders to Ryan Wesley Routh, directing him to approach them. He was wearing sunglasses, walking backwards with his hands over his head on the roadside before being handcuffed by authorities.
This followed an incident labelled as an attempted assassination of former President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump at his golf course in West Palm Beach while he was playing on September 15.
Officials confirmed that Routh did not fire any shots at Trump and lacked a direct line of sight to the former president during his assassination attempt setup.
U.S. Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe stated that there was no indication Routh knew Trump was on the course beforehand, indicating that the attempt was not premeditated for that day.
Police reported that Routh had positioned himself in a public area near the sixth hole, hidden from view, and waited around 12 hours.
The situation escalated when a Secret Service agent spotted what he believed to be the barrel of an AK-47, prompting immediate action.
The agent fired toward the perceived threat, causing Routh to flee the scene.
However, his escape was brief. A civilian, alerted by Routh's suspicious behavior, photographed his vehicle and license plate, helping authorities promptly track him down.
Routh was apprehended shortly after on Interstate 95 in Martin County, as shown in the released bodycam footage.
This new attempt on Trump's life comes only two months after he was shot at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, resulting in an injury to his right ear.
Supporters of the president were quick to claim that with Trump ahead in the polls against 'Comrade Kamala,' the establishment was resorting to ever-more extreme measures to stop the Republican from winning the U.S. elections in November.
