Otter's fishing skills amaze tourists in natural park in China
This is the incredible moment an otter's fishing skills amaze tourists in a natural park in China.
Footage shows the talents of the otter as it chases fish and then relaxes while munching on its catch amidst the stunning scenery of Jiuzhaigou Nature Reserve and National Park in Sichuan Province on September 10. Experts identified it as a Eurasian otter.
The mini fisherman spun around in the water and finally floated on the surface, lying on its back to enjoy the fish.
After finishing one fish, the otter swam back into the water to catch another, munching on that as well.
Staff at the Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area noted that the otters in the area are not captive but are protected wild animals.
The spokesman said: 'You may not see them every day; it depends on whether they come out to move around.'
He said that this type of otter only lives in an environment with relatively clear and clean water, 'which shows that the ecological environment of Jiuzhaigou is very good.'
Three otter species – Lutra lutra, Aonyx cinereus, and Lutrogale perspicillata – exist in China.
They were once widely distributed but have experienced dramatic decline in the late 20th century, being listed as Class II protected animals in China.
