A female cyclist was mauled to death by her neighbour's pet pit bull dog in Thailand.

Daeng Thamthanta, 67, was out on her regular bike rides in the neighbourhood when the American Pit Bull Terrier named Poikai leapt out of his cage and attacked her in Pathum Thani province on September 23 afternoon.

Photos of the scene show gruesome fresh bloodstains streaking the pavement where the two-year-old devil dog had dragged the cyclist off her bike. The hell hound was said to have savaged her torso and ripped off part of her calf before relatives heard her pained cries for help.

Daeng's son Tawee Maksong, 41, said he carried his seriously injured mother to a nearby shop and called an ambulance, but she died of severe blood loss while the medics were on the way.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Kritchada Prathumkaew of the Sam Khok District Police Station said police were notified of the attack at 3:30pm.

He said: 'We have taken photos of the scene as evidence and are summoning the owner for questioning. The deceased will undergo a post-mortem exam at the Central Institute of Forensic Science.'

The demon dog reportedly belonged to Daeng's neighbour Kiatkanok Tanlae, 48, who claimed the vicious beast was foisted onto her by her daughter.

Kiatkanok said: 'We own Poikai and seven other dogs. My daughter has been raising him for five years but she forced him onto me. He normally doesn't attack anyone, but he recently became aggressive. He bit my neighbour and his daughter a week ago and the girl is still recoving from her wounds.

'Normally, Poikai would sleep with me on my bed at night, but I always keep him in a cage so I don't know how he escaped.'

She implored animal shelters to take Poikai away because she 'could not take care of a dog that had bitten someone to death'.

Daeng's nephew Namphon Nakpradit, 52, said she normally rode her bicycle outside every morning.

He said: 'Poikai was never aggressive towards her but the dog did attack my youngest daughter. We are still treating her injuries until now.'

Local animal charity Watchdog Thailand Foundation said it was offering to adopt Poikai.

Thailand is notoriously unregulated over pets and there are no laws preventing people from keeping dangerous dogs.

On August 30, university student Adisak Chansakulnee, 18, was playing with his brother's three American Bully dogs when the canines brutally mauled him.

He was found dead at his family's home in Lopburi with 'an open skull and both ears missing'.

On July 24, another cyclist, Lek Seepak, 70, was visiting her neighbour when a pack of American Bullies broke out of their cage and tore into his face in Khon Kaen province. He died of severe blood loss at the hospital on the same night.

In March, a housewife nearly lost her arm when she was mauled by a pit bull in Chiang Mai province.

Fon, 30, was visiting a local, Lamduan Boonrit, 68, when the vicious dog, Rod, 10, pounced on her. She was rushed to the Nakornping Hospital for 'serious injuries to the left arm joint'.

While last December, a disabled man was killed in a brutal pit bull attack in Chiang Rai province.

Thong Mai Sung, 64, reportedly had his throat torn out by two savage pit bulls that had escaped from their cage. He was rushed to the Mae Sai Hospital, but succumbed to the grievous injuries.
