Police raid alleged online casino owned by Chinese 'Godfather'
Police raided a suspected online casino said to be owned by a Chinese gambling kingpin in the Philippines.
Cops and government officials swept through the New Wave Infotech Limited Philippines company in Binan City, Laguna province, on October 15, amid a crackdown on Chinese-run gambling hubs in the country.
Footage shows police inspecting the empty office, where several computer monitors were lying face-down on desks. The CPUs had been ripped open and the hard disks inside were missing.
Officers also scoured the rest of the office occupying six floors of the Southwoods Tower Number 2 tower, but they discovered similarly dismantled computers.
Winston Casio, spokesman for the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) that led the raid, said: 'Obviously, they are hiding something because the first thing they removed were the hard drives or digital evidence.'
The company was registered as an 'internet gaming licensee' - a rebranding of the notorious Philippine Offshore Gaming Companies or POGOs suspected to be fronts for organised crimes.
The PAOCC said it has evidence linking New Wave Infotech to Chinese 'Godfather' Lin Xunhan, who is accused of being a high-ranking POGO boss.
Lin Xunhan, also known by other aliases like Boss Boga, Lyu Dong, and Hao Hao, was arrested at a housing estate in Binan, Laguna, at around 8 pm on October 10. He was taken to the PAOCC facility in Pasay City, Metro Manila for questioning.
GOs cater to Chinese gambling clients in the Chinese mainland, but are notorious for being hotbeds for criminal activity, including scams and human trafficking. They mushroomed in the Philippines after former President Rodrigo Duterte cultivated close ties with China during his term.
Alice Guo, a town mayor accused of being a Chinese spy, was arrested in August also for her connections to the POGO crime network in the country.
