The world needs more exchanges, and literature can serve as a bridge, said Claudia Kaiser, vice president of the Frankfurt Book Fair.

"The Frankfurt Book Fair is not just the book fair once a year, but it's also an organization which creates spaces for exchange in Frankfurt and all over the year, and we want to get everybody to the table. So we are interested in exchange, not just one-way streets."

The Frankfurt Book Fair has long been a significant event for Chinese publishers, who made a strong impact at this year's edition.

"I'm very happy to see that every year the Chinese publishers come in big numbers, and our participation from Chinese publishers is this year almost the same as last year, so we're very proud of that and very happy about that. I think what would be great is there would be more exchange, so if we can integrate more Chinese publishers and Chinese speakers into our programs, and the Chinese could integrate more foreign speakers in their programs, I think more exchange would be great."
