La Ceiba, Honduras - November 15, 2024 Tropical storm SARA made landfall in Honduras and the entire Atlantic coast (northern part of the country) leaving rivers overflowing and thousands of people affected. The areas or municipalities that suffered the most impact were Tela, La Ceiba and Roatan, leaving around 45 thousand families affected. The contingency and emergency authorities of Honduras are working hard to restore the steps and accesses damaged by the storm. In Honduras, they continue to maintain the Red alerts for the entire Atlantic coast. SOUNDBITE 1 Samuel Zuniga - affected person: We left there and we left and we have nothing, everything was lost, stove, nothing, nothing was left, not a thing, we were left like that! SOUNDBITE 2 Bader Dip - Mayor of the City of La Ceiba: We have damage to the infrastructure and some roads and streets that are affecting vehicular traffic, but thank God the loss of life has not been significant, that is, there are no eventualities so far and that is something positive, everything material can be rebuilt, but the city of La Ceiba will definitely need support from the central government so that the SIT (secretary of infrastructure and transportation) intervenes in its good offices, to be able to begin the repairs!
