The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) removed debris from Lake Lure amid cleanup efforts following Hurricane Helene in western North Carolina.

Footage shows heavy equipment dredging wood and rubbish from the water on November 16.

USACE said it was collaborating with the Federal Emergency Management Agency and local agencies to clear flood debris across the region, including Asheville, Buncombe, Polk, and McDowell counties, as well as the North Carolina Arboretum.

Hurricane Helene struck the U.S. in late September 2024 as a devastating Category 4 storm that made landfall in Florida's Big Bend area. More than 230 fatalities were reported, and billions of dollars in damages occurred due to storm surge, extreme rainfall, and wind-related destruction as the storm moved rapidly inland.
