The Second Liangzhu Forum was held from Monday to Wednesday in Hangzhou, the capital of east China's Zhejiang Province.
The forum has gathered Chinese and foreign cultural officials, diplomats, scholars, writers, archaeologists, and musicians from more than 60 countries and regions to tap the rich cultural resources of Liangzhu further.
SOUNDBITE 1 (English): SOULTANA-MARIA VALAMOTI, Professor of Archaeology at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece
"I am delighted to learn about this and see the actual finds rather than reading in a book. I see how the environment and people so many thousand years ago interacted. The people managed the landscape and took advantage of what the environment offered to improve agriculture, rice cultivation. It's nice to be able to see it here."
SOUNDBITE 2 (English): JOSEP ORIOL SANA, Professor at Liceu Conservatory, Spain
"We have so different directions around the world. But now, we have the opportunity to put all the different points of view and go in one direction."
An array of sub-forums and international seminars on archaeology, literature, music, and art were held during the Liangzhu Forum, inspiring experts and scholars to engage in interdisciplinary and cross-border academic dialogues.
SOUNDBITE 3 (English): ROGELIO GUEDEA, Mexican writer
"The human connection is very important, and literature is like the perfect language to connect to others. So for that reason, I think that this forum is very important that includes literature and culture apart from archaeology, history, and music."
SOUNDBITE 4 (English): PAWEL GUSNAR, Professor at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music, Poland
"It is absolutely phenomenal for me that you, as Chinese people, care about your wonderful rich traditions. It's absolutely the role of the model to take inspiration from the traditions."
The Liangzhu ruins gained the world heritage status in 2019. More than 350 sites of the Liangzhu Culture have so far been discovered in the lower reaches of China's longest river, the Yangtze.
