SOUNDBITE (English): EVAN KAIL, American citizen
"I'm experiencing all the different major Chinese cities, experiencing the culture, seeing the historic sites and seeing what was in the album that I donated for myself, how things have changed over 100 years and going and checking them out.
So in Beijing so far, I've seen a bunch of different sites. We started out at the flag-raising ceremony. I thought that was the best way to pay my respects and show my respect to the people of China by watching the ceremony. So we saw that first at Tian'anmen Square. I went to the national gallery (National Museum of China). I went to the Temple of Heaven.
You really need to see it in person to really understand and appreciate it. The Great Wall was way more incredible than I could have imagined, same with the Temple of Heaven.
I'm trying to see the historical sites - not just the tourist attraction sites, but the ones that have the most culture. So just seeing all the history here is incredible."
Xinhua News Agency correspondents reporting from Beijing.
