STORYLINE:
Taxi drivers in several major French cities Monday staged a "go-slow" protest against proposals to decrease payment for patient transport services.
Currently, patient transport fare is an important part of taxi drivers' income in France.
However, as part of a 2025 draft budget bill, the French government is seeking to decrease patient transport spending by 300 million euros.
Proposed changes also include requiring patients to share transport services with other patients.
SOUNDBITE (French): ABDELATIF GRINE, President of "FTI69" taxi union
"What I fear is the choice we have been given: to work at a discount and put our businesses in difficulty, or to treat our patients like parcels — to make them wait a very long time in a waiting room, no matter if there are three, four, five, six... up to eight of them in a shared taxi."
