Fast-Moving Brush Fire Forces Evacuations and Power Outage at Pepperdine University, Malibu

A fast-moving brush fire erupted late Monday night near Malibu Canyon Road, quickly growing to 300 acres amid high winds and extreme fire danger.
The fire began shortly before 11 p.m., approximately three miles north of Pacific Coast Highway, according to L.A. County Fire officials. The cause of the fire remains unclear.
Mandatory evacuation orders were issued for areas east of Malibu Canyon Road, south of Piuma Road, and the Serra Retreat area.
At Pepperdine University’s Malibu campus, power outages were reported as flames spread nearby. According to the student newspaper, school officials initially warned of the fire’s rapid growth but did not activate shelter-in-place protocols until after midnight. By 1 a.m., anyone on campus was instructed to relocate to the campus center or Payson Library.
Firefighters are continuing to battle the blaze, with evacuation efforts and safety protocols underway.
