Chinook helicopters join battle to quell Franklin Fire in Malibu
Chinook helicopters were used to help quell the Franklin Fire in Malibu, California.
Footage shows Boeing CH-47 heavy lifters sucking water from a pond at Pepperdine University Alumni Park to pour onto burning hill patches on December 10.
The fire was first reported on December 9 as a five-acre blaze on Malibu Canyon Road, quickly spreading due to gusty winds. More than 4,000 acres have been scorched.
Despite the ongoing threat, mandatory evacuation orders were lifted and downgraded to warnings on December 13, allowing some residents to return home.
Voluntary evacuation warnings are still in effect, but students at Pepperdine University near where it first broke out are safe.
