A hungry elephant stopped trucks and other cars to make off with snacks.

The jumbo emerged from the forest and blocked the route where tourists and plantation deliver lorries passed by. It then searched them for food in Chachoengsao, Thailand.

Footage shows the tusker poking its trunk on the back of a pickup and moving to the other lane to flag a trailer truck down.

The clever animal seemed to know which vehicles could potentially be carrying something to eat and let the other leave, waiting for the bigger truck from a farm.

There are believed to be up to 3,500 wild elephants in Thailand. The population has been increasing in recent years, but it is still a fraction of the estimated 300,000 wild elephants that lived in Thailand at the beginning of the 20th century. The main threats to wild elephants in Thailand are habitat loss and fragmentation, poaching, and conflict with humans.
