This is the rare moment that a "foamy sea", an extraordinary phenomenon driven by a sharp drop in temperature accompanied by strong winds, occurred in China.

On December 6, 2024, the video captured the stunning scene in Weihai, Shandong, where the sea appeared frothy with layers of white foam stretching across the coast.

According to Gaokao Direct, the formation of the "foamy sea" occurred when warm and cold ocean currents met, stirring up underwater nutrients. This surge in nutrients had promoted the proliferation of plankton.

When these organisms died, they released a surfactant that led to the formation of foam, visible only during specific meteorological conditions like those on the day of filming.

The phenomenon was short-lived, with the foam dissipating as the winds calmed and temperatures gradually rose, leaving behind a normal seascape once more.
