China has unveiled its new state-of-the-art bridge, which saw more than 52,000 vehicles cross it during its first weekend.

The Huangmaohai Cross-sea Channel bridge, located in the heart of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, opened on December 11.

Official footage and dashcam videos filmed by road users show the massive bridge stretching for miles across the bay.

Designed by the China Communications Construction Highway Planning and Design Institute Co., Ltd., the bridge features a two-way, six-lane expressway built to accommodate vehicles traveling at speeds of up to 100 kph (62 mph).

This bridge is part of an extension of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, with the main line now comprising 20 bridges covering 21.3 kilometres (13.23 miles), two tunnels totalling 2.5 kilometres (1.55 miles), and four interchanges.

The total length of the project is reported to be 31.1 kilometres (19.32 miles).

While still impressive, it falls short of the longest bridge in the world, which is also in China.

The Danyang-Kunshan Grand Bridge holds the record as the world's longest bridge, stretching 164.8 kilometres (102.4 miles).
