Footage shows a demonstration of the single-sheet hyperboloid model.

A math enthusiast used a straight road to illustrate how it could ingeniously pass through a narrow hyperbolic slit, demonstrating how geometry works in Guangdong, China on December 10.

In the video, the rod rotates tracing a three-dimensional shape.

The curve edge of the hyperboloid surface formed hyperbolic lines, making the metal stick to glide from top to bottom through the structure.

Single-sheet hyperboloids are often used in architecture, such as in the cooling towers of nuclear power plants. Hyperboloid structures are generally more stable than other structures, which is important for the delicate function of cooling towers.

The first hyperboloid cooling towers were built in the Netherlands in 1918 and the United Kingdom in 1924.
