Moment car full of 'thieves' mounts pavement to evade unmarked police car
This is the moment a car full of suspected thieves mounted a pavement in a bid to evade unmarked police cars.
Josh Dee was driving home after doing some Christmas shopping in southeast London with his mum when he witnessed the scene.
The 17-year-old, who recorded the chase on cameras in his car, said he heard a white car - believed to be a Mitsubishi Outlander - later crashed after being chased by nearly ten police cars.
The car, a part of which is seen hanging from the right side, is seen driving along the pavement and narrowly avoids a pedestrian before rejoining the road and speeding away.
Seconds later, an unmarked police car mounts the same pavement in pursuit of the car.
Scotland Yard said the vehicle pursued was suspected of having been in a "high-value theft". "
The four people in the car were arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving and robbery.
Describing the chase, content creator Mr Dee said: "I was driving home with my mum from doing some Christmas shopping at Bexleyheath Shopping Centre."
"I saw a car in my front left wing mirror and heard sirens. "
"I saw the undercover police cars and realised it was a police chase. "
"I didn't realise the white car was on the pavement until it came past me, and I didn't realise there was a police car on the pavement as well until I looked back at the footage. "
"Two pedestrians had to jump out of the way to avoid being hit. "
"The white car went round the car in front of me and struck the wing mirror of the car in front. "
"They went left at the mini roundabout. Once the white car was gone nine police cars"
- both marked and unmarked - passed us in pursuit.
"Apparently they crashed into someone's back garden."
A spokesperson for the Met Police said the chased car had been suspected of being involved in a "high-value theft". "
They said: "At around 14:30hrs on Wednesday, 11 December a vehicle being pursued by officers came to a stop in Long Lane, Bexleyheath."
"The vehicle was being pursed because it was suspected to have been involved in high-value theft from shops."
"The four occupants were arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving and robbery."
"There were no reports of any injuries as a result of the pursuit."
"The investigation is being led by Sussex Police."
