US: Geologists Monitor Eruption at Halema‘uma‘u Crater
Hawaii, USA - December 27, 2024 Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park – Kīlauea’s summit continues to captivate as geologists from the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory conducted an overflight on the morning of December 27, 2024, to assess the ongoing eruption within Halema‘uma‘u crater. Eruptive activity remained subdued, with low-level lava effusion observed from two vents on the southwest side of the crater floor. A silvery patch of fresh lava marked the activity, while darker flows nearby were remnants of the eruption’s dramatic first day on December 23, 2024.
