Jordan: Syrian interim FM visits Jordan to discuss security, economic cooperation

Amman, Jordan - January 07, 2025 Syria's interim Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shibani visited Jordan on Tuesday to discuss security and economic cooperation, marking a shift in bilateral relations following Damascus's recent change in leadership. Al-Shibani and his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi agreed to establish a joint committee focusing on security, energy, and other areas of mutual interest, Jordan's state-owned broadcaster Al Mamlaka TV reported. Safadi affirmed Jordan's support for Syria's reconstruction efforts following years of conflict and devastation, pledging Jordan's continued support. At a joint news conference after the talks in Amman, Safadi said both sides agreed on the importance of border security, particularly in combating drug trafficking. Al-Shibani expressed thankfulness for Jordan's firm support. He stated that both countries are committed to strengthening bilateral cooperation and mutual development in political and economic spheres.
