US: Palisades residents left reeling as wildfire destroys homes, businesses in Los Angeles
Los Angeles, United States - January 09, 2025 Many residential buildings in Palisades have been severely damaged in the deadly wildfires raging around Los Angeles, which have claimed at least 10 lives and forced nearly 180,000 people to flee their homes. Five active fires in Los Angeles County have grown to more than 29,000 acres (about 117.3 square kilometers). The two biggest ones, the Palisades Fire and the Eaton Fire, erupted on Tuesday and have since spread to a combined 27,834 acres (approximately 112.6 square kilometers) with zero containment as of Thursday morning, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE). The Palisades Fire left a trail of destruction, with a staggering 300 homes and buildings reduced to ashes, and over 13,300 more structures at risk of being consumed by the flames. Ardie Tavangarian's home was destroyed in the fire. Having lived in Palisades for more than 30 years, he had never experienced such a devastating blaze. As Ardie looked upon the charred remains of his once-familiar home, he was overcome with a profound sense of sorrow and loss. He said that after receiving the evacuation notice, everyone drove down the mountain to flee their homes, and the scene was congested and chaotic. Fortunately, there were no casualties. Ardie's house was severely damaged in the fire, with the roof completely collapsed, leaving only the walls and iron frame structure intact. The original furnishings are barely recognizable. James, a friend who accompanied Ardie to inspect the property, was deeply saddened by the loss. Shotlist: Los Angeles, California, USA - Jan 9, 2025: 1. Aerial shot of damaged buildings; 2.
