New York, United States - January 10, 2025 Bronx, New York – A fierce 5-alarm fire tore through a building on Wallace Avenue early on January 10, forcing nearly 200 FDNY Fire and EMS personnel to fight the flames under treacherous conditions. The fire, which began around 1:40 a.m., ravaged the top floor of the building and spread rapidly through the roof. Chief of Department John Esposito described the scene, stating that the fire had “too much headway” and was too dangerous for firefighters to fight from inside. After evacuating personnel, crews used tower ladders to combat the blaze. Seven people, including five firefighters and two civilians, sustained minor injuries. The fire is currently under investigation by FDNY Fire Marshals, but windy conditions were cited as a significant factor in the fire’s swift spread.
