'We didn't get what we deserved' - Arteta on FA Cup loss to Man United
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said it was "incredible” that Arsenal didn’t win Sunday’s FA Cup third round tie with holders Manchester United after 'The Gunners' lost 5-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw at the end of extra-time.
Ruben Amorim’s team held on for over an hour with ten men after Diogo Dalot was shown a second yellow card, having mistimed a tackle on Arsenal midfielder Mikel Merino on 61 minutes.
Under-fire Joshua Zirkzee scored the winning penalty after Kai Havertz’s spot kick was saved, following a match where the German forward missed several chances to seal victory.
Havertz's effort in the shoot-out was stopped by United's second-choice goalkeeper Altay Bayindir, who had also blocked a second-half spot kick from Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard after Havertz was fouled in the box by Harry Maguire.
The result saw record 14-time FA Cup winners Arsenal exit the competition in the third round for a third time in four seasons, while Manchester United advanced to a fourth-round home tie with Leicester City.
