This is the bizarre moment a farmer on a hunger strike climbs an electricity pole to protest the government's failure to act in India.

Footage shows Vilas Charjan sitting on a cot tied to a post under the harsh sunlight in Sonari village, Chandur Bazaar Tehsil, Amravati district, Maharashtra, on Monday, January 27.

Reports say he launched the demonstration over the delay in removing the pole, which he claims has been obstructing the road.

Earlier, Charjan had also staged a protest by sitting in a well, but despite repeated complaints, no action was taken by the authorities.

The farmer stated that the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL) had issued a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the removal of the pole, but the administration has yet to take any action.
