This is the dramatic moment a camper van floated away in floodwaters following heavy rain in Indiana.

Footage shows the self-propelled vehicle being carried off by rapidly rising deluge in Pekin, behind Casey's petrol station, where a bridge on Shorts Corner Road was overwhelmed.

Officials confirmed that the camper was unoccupied when it was swept away by the swollen river on Thursday, July 17.

The motorhome became briefly stuck on the bridge before a strong current pulled it beneath the structure, as the video clip ends.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for New Pekin on Thursday evening, in effect until 11:15 pm.

Rainfall totals in the area ranged between 37 mm and 40 mm (1.45 and 1.57 inches).
