Locals raced their pet goats wearing colourful dresses at a village fair.

The residents gathered in a field to join the annual game in its third year organised by Songkhla Rajabhat University in Satun province, Thailand.

Footage shows the farm yard goats being paraded to the middle dressed in scarves, shirts, and ribbons on January 24.

The race then started with the farmers following behind the hoofed animals to ensure they stayed in their lanes.

One of the organisers said: 'The decision was made to organise goat races, as goats are considered valuable economic animals and can be found in almost every household in the area.'

Some goats tried to shift lanes or escape the field, causing residents to laugh.

Thailand is predominantly Buddhist and celebrates festivals honouring animals to emphasise compassion toward all living beings. Festivals often feature blessings for animals and rituals for their well-being.
