Artist carves out detailed portrait stamps from small erasers
An artist carved out detailed portrait stamps from small erasers.
Footage shows Haji Yurawan Chomphon using a sharp oblique knife to sculpt the school supply drawn with the face of a man in Nakhon Pathom, Thailand.
He began by drawing a portrait of a man on a small sheet of paper and then transferred the design to the two inches by three inches school item
Lines and edges of the human face were then carved out by hand to make unique personalised stamps. To accompany the portrait, Haji also made two others with the man's name written in Thai script.
The talented Haji said it took her an hour to finish portrait stamps alone and would probably take her up to three hours for a full-body design.
In some Asian cultures, stamps are used to communicate status and wealth. In China, the imperial seals were used to authenticate important documents and to show the emperor's authority.
