Grover Beach, United States - February 02, 2025 A Grover Beach man was arrested after intentionally ramming a police patrol vehicle in a head-on collision on February 2, 2025. Grover Beach Police officers responded to a disturbance involving a vehicle in the 400 block of Leoni Drive, where they found 62-year-old Steven Tomis driving a 1974 Ford pickup truck. Officers determined that Tomis had already collided with another vehicle before their arrival. When officers attempted to investigate, Tomis evaded the first responding officer and tried to flee. As a second officer arrived and activated emergency lights, Tomis accelerated directly toward the patrol car, crashing into it head-on. The officer sustained minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital. Both vehicles were severely damaged, with the patrol car having been in service for only a few weeks. Tomis was found to be under the influence of alcohol and was arrested without further incident. He was booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail on charges of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, and DUI with injury.
