A drunk driver was caught on dashcam ramming a police car in California.

Grover Beach Police officers responded to a call about a vehicle incident in the 400 block of Leoni Drive, where they located the suspect, Steven Tomis, 62, driving a 1974 Ford pickup truck on February 2.

It is believed Tomis had already collided with another vehicle before their arrival.

When authorities attempted to investigate, Tomis evaded the first responding officer and tried to flee.

As a second officer arrived and activated emergency lights, Tomis accelerated directly towards the patrol car, crashing into it head-on.

The officer sustained minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital.

Both vehicles were severely damaged, with the patrol car being in service for only a few weeks.

Tomis was found to be under the influence of alcohol and was arrested without further incident.

He was booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail on charges of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, and DUI with injury.
